Frank Dutton
Frank Dutton started his high school athletic career at Homer High School, in Illinois. He participated in football for four years and basketball three years. In 1961 he was a second team All-Conference Tackle for the East Central Conference. In 1960 was chose as the American Legions Boys State Award Winner.
After graduation he went on to play football at Illinois State University from 1962-1965. He lettered as an offensive tackle from 1963-1965. In 1965-1966 he was the Illinois Interscholastic Athletic Association All Conference Offensive Tackle.
In 1966 Frank started his coaching career at ISU as a Student Assistant Freshman Football Coach. From 1967-1970 He was a Varsity Assistant Football Coach at Lincolnway High School, were he was also the Assistant Track coach from 1968-1970.
From 1970-1971 he served in the same positions at Wheaton Central H.S.
In 1971 Frank was hired at MSHS to be it’s head football and Head Boys Track Coach.
He held the football position until 1992 and Boys Track until 1987.
Franks overall record in football At MSHS was 129 and 76. His 1977 team won the Class 2A State Championship and thus became MSHS first State Championship team. His 1982 and 1986 his teams made it to the state semifinals in class 2A Football and he had 3 teams advance to the 2A State Quarterfinals.
In 1987 his Boys Track Team placed 2nd and his 1980 team was 3rd in the class A State Championships. Franks Boys Track team won 4 sectional titles.
Frank was proud to have coached 3 Big Ten Scholarship Football players and 8 NCAA Division 1AA scholarship players. In 1992 Franks son (Doug) was signed by the NFL’s Phoenix Cardinals as a free agent. In Boys Track he had 18 individual state placers and 10 state placing relay teams in Class A
In 1978 Frank served as the East Team Head Coach for the IHSFCA Illinois High School All Star Football Game.
As a IHSFCA Regional Rep, Coach Dutton served 15 years on the Illinois High School Shrine Football Game All Star selection Committee.
On April 9th, 1994 Frank was inducted into the IHAFCA’s Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
Frank was married to his wife Diane in 1967 and has two children, Doug and Beth.
