Sharon (Farley) Goff
Sharon’s career in Girl’s Track started at the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High level. By the time she graduated MSHS she had established a legacy nearly unparalleled in the storied Mahomet-Seymour Girls Track program coached by the legendary Girls Track coach, Bob (Moose) Handlin.
Sharon’s top time of 11.8 seconds in the 100 meters is tied for the school record. She holds the second fastest time in the 200 meters at 25.0 seconds. Sharon was also a key member of the 1979 and 1980 Girls Class A State Track Champion Teams. The two relays she was on in 1979 set new school and class A state records in the 800 meter relay (1:45.7) and 800 Medley (1:51.4). In 1980 sharon won the 100 meters (12.7 sec) and 200 meters (25.4). Sharon has won more individual state titles than any girl in school history with four. She also placed 5th in the 220 yard hurdles in the 1979 Class A Girls State track Meet.
In 1980 Sharon had the honor of competing in the Midwest meet of Champions in the 100 meter dash and as a member of the 800 Medley that included the future 3 time Olympic Gold Medalist in Women's Track and Field, Jackie Joyner Kersee.
Sharon continued to compete in track at Eastern Illinois University in the 400 meter hurdles and numerous relays from 1980 to 1984. While at Eastern Sharon earned her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics & Family Services. In 1990 Sharon earned her Masters of School Counseling at Illinois State University and her Certification Administration Degree in 1996.
After college Sharon went on to teach at Clinton, Illinois for 5 years and then landed a teacher position at Olympia High School as a teacher/ counselor. She held this position for 26 years and retired in May of 2018. While at Olympia, Sharon coached Girls Track and Field until 1999 and her team was able to earn second place honers. This team holds the States 800 Medley relay record at 1:48.2 this event has since been retired. Sharon was awarded the 1999-Coach of the Year in the ITCCA South Division.
During retirement Sharon plans to play a large role in the family farm business in Hopedale,Illinois with her husband Doug and two Son’s Cole and Carson.
