Brian Haag
Brian moved from Ann Arbor, Michigan to Mahomet his 8th grade year. He came as an accomplished trumpet player and during his freshman year in High School he auditioned for a solo in Jazz Band and got it. His career was about to flourish.
He became an outstanding trumpet player in the Mahomet-Seymour High School marching, concert and jazz bands. While in High School his multiple music talents also allowed him to perform in the Swing Choir, Madrigals, Choir programs.
Brian performed in the All-State band his senior year as one of the top trumpet players in the state of Illinois . According to his band and choir instructors , Dick and Janet Watkins, his level of musicianship raised the bar in what excellence could sound like at the High School level.
Brian received numerous first place ratings in solo and ensemble at the high school and state levels. Brian won the best soloist award performance of the day at a solo contest in his performing room. He was the Madrigal leader his senior year.
Brian’s last two years in high school were years that the Mahomet music program made huge leaps in quality. The marching band set the standard at contests and won Grand Champions at every contest from 1988 to 1997. Brian played a major role in starting this tradition.
After high school, Brian became a scholarship member of the highly acclaimed Marching Illini. He became the sectional leader of the Marching Illini Trumpeters and was was featured as the trumpet soloist for the band. He was also allowed to to arrange a piece for the Illini trumpet section a great honor that had significant responsibilities. Brian was one of six former Mahomet Seymour Band members to play for the Illini Marching Band during his college career. Before this time the MSHS had never been represented.
One of Brian’s fondest musical memories was sing the Mahler’s 8th Symphony with his brother as members of a choir on the Carnegie Hall stage.
At the present Brian resides in the Netherlands in Amsterdam, were he is involved with the design and building of software professional traders.
